NYC-EWR Trip.

I met a dear old friend from high school J.Suresh after almost 5 years. It is always nice to meet one of your close friends after a long time. This was a quick thinking trip..thanks to Sachin, who was planning to visit his cousins so we booked our tickets to Newark together.

I landed Friday morning @ 6. Suresh picked me up at the airport; we headed to his place in West Orange. We got ready and headed to the city (Manhattan). It was Suresh's idea that we have lunch at Saravana Bhavan - I would never deny a meal at Saravana Bhavan so I agreed. But we got duped...which we did not realize till Suresh's roomie told us that night over dinner at Udupi.

Apparently, there is a Saravanna's Dosa Hut (who happens to just advertise as Saravanna's and also uses the trademark 'Vel'). You can visit the dupe saravana's at http://www.saravanaas.com/ and the original Saravana's at http://www.saravanabhavan.com/. If you notice closely, the dupe saravanna's also points to the same physical mailing address as the original one 81, Lexington Avenue & 26th Street. All said, we ate at the wrong Saravana's - I doubted it during my meal but did not say it out loud, cos they had kushboo idly's something which saravana bhavan will never make...

Alright moving along..after lunch headed to Empire State Building and went up to the 86th floor observatory. The visibility was just 2 miles because of the cloud cover and the drizzling rain, but that did not stop us. I always wanted to go up, which I never did in spite of visiting NYC twice. Next we headed to the Central Park and walked inside aimlessly and walked from Central Park to the Madame Tussaud's Wax Museum and wrapped up late evening at Times square and headed back home.

Saturday was some 'family connecting' time and 'some getting lose while driving in NY' time. I rented a car to visit my cousin Jagan and Priya. I picked up Jagan from Jersey City and headed to a blocked 678 highway and took an alternative route 495 to head to Long Island to visit Priya. After a hectic 3 hour drive I reached Priya's place for lunch. We stayed there for a couple of hours and headed back to the grind of driving back to NJ. I had to drop Jagan in Jersey City. I got lost several times traveled through Brooklyn, Queens..and all sort of places and finally reached near the Holland tunnel just to wait 1 hour to get to the tunnel and the adventure did not stop even when I was trying to get to West Orange from Jersey City. I have started to appreciate L.A more after my drive in NYC.

Sunday, Suresh and I visited Bridgewater temple and after lunch I got dropped at the Newark airport to head back to Los Angeles.

It was def. a fun weekend, with all the 'LOST' driving and meeting folks...that I don’t mind doing it again :)

Check out some photos taken during the trip...I shall post the rest of them on flickr.

Till Next,
~M
